Another great place to visit in Fall is one of Beloit’s best kept secrets. Double B Farm is a charming family-owned café and store located on a working farm. Enjoy home-style country dishes like their famous biscuits and gravy sourced on-site. They offer breakfast and lunch on Wednesdays through Sundays and have Pizza Nights on Saturday evenings from 5:30-8:30 pm June through September. Don’t be surprised when you pull up to find a menagerie of farm and domestic animals. Please note: Double B Farm only accepts cash. As they are a working farm, it’s always best to call before stopping out.

Hours: Wednesday-Sunday 8 am-12 pm
Saturdays June-September 8 am-12 pm then reopen at 5:30 pm for wood-fired pizzas.

Downtown Beloit boasts early 20th-century architecture, seasonal artwork, and is all about charm and supporting local businesses. With more than 30 shops and 20 restaurants including an old-time candy shop offering homemade chocolates, retro candies and gourmet popcorn, you’ll have fun exploring!

The Downtown Beloit Farmers’ Market has been a tradition in the community for more than 30 years. Shop for local produce, organics, baked goods, honey, and jams & jellies. Shoppers will also find bedding plants, fish, meat, eggs & cheese, fresh flowers, artisan crafts, scents & skin care!

The open-air market is held rain or shine on Saturdays from 9 am-Noon from May through October at the corner of State St. and Grand Ave.

Paddle on Turtle Creek or the Rock River

Paddling and kayaking in Beloit and the surrounding area is amazing! Beloit is halfway on the Rock River Trail and has beautiful landscape and wildlife—perfect for water sports. The Rock River Trail is a National Water Trail also offers 10 other trails to discover! It winds its way through Wisconsin and Illinois, 11 scenic counties, and 41 charming communities. The trail is also utilized to promote recreational use and areas of scenic and historic interest and significance.

In addition, Beloit has access to Turtle Creek. Spend a leisurely day kayaking the Turtle Creek that winds for miles from the oldest five-arch stone bridge in Wisconsin—Tiffany Bridge—built in 1869.

Get Away From it All at Big Hill Park

Big Hill Park is one of the most scenic sites in Beloit. The park boasts 190 acres of natural beauty and lies north of the city on the bluffs of the Rock River. The highest point of the park offers spectacular views of the fall foliage and river below. There are plenty of nature and hiking trails, sheltered picnic areas and a playground.

In addition, the park is home to Welty Environmental Center. The center offers environmental education for all ages in the Stateline region, from pre-K through adults.

Big Hill Park is open at sunrise and closes at 9 p.m. April 1-September 30 and at sunset October 1-March 31.

Regular Welty Center hours are 8:30 am-4:30 pm Monday-Friday. Please call ahead, as staff my be offsite with programs.

Have Picnic at Beckman Mill County Park

Beckman Mill Pond

A visit to Beloit isn’t complete without heading to Beckman Mill County Park. The 50-acre park is home to the historic Beckman Mill, an authentically restored operational grist mill from 1868. The Mill was added to the National Register of Historic places in 1977.

In addition to the mill, you will find a dam, mill pond, footbridge, saw mill display, 1840s cooperage, visitors center, gift shop, creamery, vintage garden, nature trails and more.

Beckman Mill County Park is open year round to the public. The mill is typically open for tours on Saturdays and Sundays, 1-4pm, May-October.
