Annual Event Celebrates 11th Year with 80 Players at the Beloit Kubb Open

BELOIT, Wis. – On Saturday, August 9th, players from across the Midwest and beyond gathered at Pohlman Field in Beloit, WI, for another exciting Beloit Kubb Open tournament. The eleventh annual event drew 40 teams from eight states: Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Wisconsin, as well as one player from Costa Rica. Participants ranged from seasoned pros to complete newcomers, making for a diverse and exciting tournament.
Visit Beloit organized the event, with Dan Ivanuck serving as the event director. Participants and sponsors enjoyed a day of intense competition while spectators cheered them on. The Beloit Youth Hockey Association was on-site, offering food and beverages for sale to support their local programs and athletes. In addition, Nikkie Chadwick of Walnut Creek Apparel & Gifts hosted a pop-up tent featuring exclusive kubb merchandise along with a variety of other items for sale.
Team Do You Respect Wood?, comprised of Jesse Fraim (Kalamazoo, MI) and Lars Arneson (Oregon, WI), claimed the 2025 Beloit Kubb Open Championship in a match with Flux Capacitors, comprised of Joe Dekan (Eau Claire, WI) and John Ellingsen (Eau Claire, WI) to take home the championship trophy. Third place was claimed by Chris Hodges (Des Moines, IA) and Josh Feathers (Des Moines, IA) of team DMK with a victory over Chad Stute (Circle Pines, MN) and Steve Dolan (Minneapolis, MN) of Friends of Dave. The event paid out $860 in prize money, with the winning duo taking home $300 of the prize pool. The top three teams received trophies to commemorate their accomplishments. Designed and 3D printed by Beloit CareerTek students and staff, each trophy combined traditional kubb game pieces with cutting-edge technology.
Adam Holtz (Chetek, WI) and Jeff Rodgers (Chippewa Falls, WI) of Sons of Waffles claimed the Consolation Bracket A championship with a victory over Trevor Bailey (Bloomington, MN) and JP Larson (St. Louis Park, MN) of Chaska Noisemakers. Consolation Bracket B was claimed by The Darkness Huginn, comprised of Shane Linge (Superior, WI) and Jenny Linge (Superior, WI), with a victory over Jeff Garey (Janesville, WI) and Garth Peterson (Madison, WI) of A.M. Lumber. Consolation Bracket C saw Matt Bosen (Beloit, WI) and Jeff Vohs (Beloit, WI) of Executive Session defeatJim Hansen (Darien, WI) and Wayne Fell (Costa Rica) of Feeling Kubby for the top spot.
