Annual Event Celebrates 10th Year with Over 80 Players at the Beloit Kubb Open

BELOIT, Wis. – On Saturday, August 10th, the weather was ideal for the Beloit Kubb Open at Pohlman Field in Beloit, WI. The 10th annual event drew 42 teams from Six states: Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Participants ranged from seasoned pros to complete newcomers, making for a diverse and exciting tournament.

Visit Beloit organized the event, with Dan Ivanuck serving as the event director. Participants and sponsors enjoyed a day of intense competition while spectators cheered them on. The Beloit Youth Hockey Association was also on-site, offering food and beverages for sale to support their local programs and athletes.

Team Chaska Noisemakers, comprised of Jason Larson (St. Louis Park, MN) and Trevor Bailey (Minneapolis, MN) defended their 2023 title by claiming the 2024 Beloit Kubb Open Championship in a match with Lollipop Guild, comprised of Matt Green (De Pere, WI) and Jake Skerletts (St. Paul, MN) to take home the championship trophy. Third place was claimed by John Ellingsen (Eau Claire, WI) and Evan Fitzgerald (Atkins, IA) of team Skol with a victory over Jesse Fraim (Kalamazoo, MI) and Josh Feathers (Des Moines, IA) of Kingmakers. The event paid out $1,010 in prize money, with the winning duo taking home $400 of the prize pool. The top three teams received trophies to commemorate their accomplishments. Designed and built by Beloit Memorial High School art students, each trophy combined elements of the kubb tradition with symbols representing Beloit.

Shane Linge (Superior, WI) and Jenny Linge (Superior, WI) of The Darkness – Huginn claimed the Consolation Bracket A championship with a victory over George Sloan (Batavia, IL) and Brian Belling (Batavia, IL) of Taste The Biscuit. Consolation Bracket B was claimed by Front Line Heat, comprised of Hans Nelson (Eau Claire, WI) and Noah Nelson (Eau Claire, WI) with a victory over Michael Kruse (Madison, WI) and Gabe Kruse (Madison, WI) of Baton Solo & Kubbacca. Consolation Bracket C saw Braden Drager (Beloit, WI) and Brian Chadwick (Beloit, WI) of IceKubbs defeat Matthew Bliss (Beloit, WI) and Tracy Bliss (Beloit, WI) of Don’t Think, Just Kubb for the top spot.
