what to SEE

Not sure where to start on the trail? Use the digital pass to filter stops by categories like “Community Art” and “O.V. Shaffer” to help guide your adventure.

Wondering who O.V. Shaffer is? He was a renowned American sculptor with deep ties to Beloit. Many of his beautiful steel and brass sculptors are located throughout the city, from the Beloit College campus to the Rock River and downtown. In fact, more than 10 installations on the trail are his creations.

And there’s plenty more to see. The trail also highlights colorful murals by local artists in Beloit, as well as South Beloit and Rockton, Illinois. Plus, one of the newest additions on the trail is the wrapped electrical boxes in downtown Beloit, with more on the way.

Hear from a Beloit Explorer

Beloit & Beyond Outdoor Art Passport Trail

One of our dedicated explorers, Miranda Becker, recently completed the Outdoor Art Trail. With a friend along for the adventure, Miranda explored murals, sculptures, and installations throughout Beloit. Some pieces were familiar favorites, while many were exciting new discoveries.

Miranda shared that her favorite part of the trail was along the Rock River. She walks the riverfront path several times a week during the warmer months and says it’s always a treat to have something visually inspiring to enjoy along the way. Another highlight was seeing the art at Beloit College for the first time. Since she didn’t attend the college, she found it fun to explore the beautiful campus and appreciate the artwork right in the heart of the city.

She first heard about the Outdoor Art Trail while signing up for the Taco Trail, which has since merged with the Loved by Locals Trail. Miranda was glad to see Visit Beloit offering even more ways to explore the area through the themed trails. Reflecting on her experience, she said, “I absolutely loved this opportunity–it only took a day, and it felt like my own personal art tour through the city I’ve called home for nearly a decade. My friend and I had a blast exploring Beloit and discovering just how much art and creativity the city has to offer.”
